Scandinavian summers are often quite chilly, which is why Swedes are eager to catch the warm sunlight when summer finally arrives. However, sunlit areas fill up quickly, often leaving shaded outdoor seating and furniture unused. With "Here Comes the Sun," IKEA promoted its outdoor furniture while helping people enjoy more sunlight. By creating a scaled-up version of the NISSEDAL mirror with a built-in GPS-controlled motor, sunlight was reflected onto outdoor seating at cafés and restaurants that would otherwise remain in the shade. This innovative solution, which went on tour for a week at three handpicked locations in central Stockholm, allowed people to spend more time in the sun while showcasing IKEA’s outdoor furniture. The entire campaign was captured in a film and shared online, helping the initiative gain global traction and attention.
