Viewpoints about Creativity

In a few words, can you tell us who you are what your job title is?
Joris is a passionate and dedicated Creative Director at Dentsu Creative Amsterdam with a proven track record in creating impactful campaigns for leading international brands, including Heineken, KPN, Volvo, Volkswagen, Philips, Mars, KLM, Vodafone, Adidas, and Unilever.
What word would you best use to describe your office’s culture? Give us an example
Our motto is innovating to impact. This means we always try to find new ways of doing things, telling stories or create culture. The will to innovate with intent, starts with curiosity. Fearlessness is essential as well as a relentless follow-through to make it happen.
If you were stranded on a desert island and could only use one app., which app would it be?
Question Image
It would have to be something like Slack or Evernote. Because even on a desert island, I’d want to create. I’d use it to journal my thoughts, sketch ideas inspired by the isolation, and—who knows?—maybe craft a pitch for a story or campaign about the experience. Creativity doesn’t switch off just because you're stranded :-)
If you could choose three ads from history that you didn’t work on and add them to your portfolio, which three would you choose? Explain why
Joris Tol:
  • 1 Sony balls - Discharging a volley of rubber balls down a steep hill in San Francisco in a dreaming soundtrack turns intelligence into magic. (Color like no other.)
  • 2 Dumb ways to die - Dark humor to promote safety. It's brilliant how they used entertainment to carry a message people don't necessarily like to hear.
  • 3 It's a Tide Ad - How do you hijack all 53 ads in the Super Bowl while buying just 90 seconds of airtime? Sounds impossible right?
What is your opinion on the growing trend of agencies getting involved with developing products for clients?

Can you watch this case study for Hammerhead Navigation and tell us your thoughts on the product and the campaign?

It doesn't matter whose idea it is. Whatever helps generating a positive effect on the industry, society, and the world is welcome and worth celebrating I guess.
