The “Apnea Against Pollution” is the first campaign that enclosed the highest concentration of pollution ever recorded in the most important Italian cities together with world freediving champions who holds their breath to send a powerful message: we shouldn’t have to stop breathing to fight pollution. But fight to breathe again. The campaign was launched in Milan with a giant glass cube that made the invisible drama of pollution, visible. Inside this transparent structure, we encapsulated the worst level of smog recorded in the city (118g/m³ of PM2.5), along with the world champion freediver Mike Maric, who held his breath to raise awareness about this alarming situation. The same event was organized in Rome, where multiple world record holder in freediving Alessia Zecchini performed the breath-holding act with the highest level of smog recorded in the capital. The two events gathered over 30,000 signatures, which became a legislative proposal presented in Parliament to ask institutions urgent interventions to improve air quality in our cities.
