Most environmental organizations choose to focus on the destruction and decimation brought on by climate change. But people have grown desensitized to those types of images. Environmental Leadership Canada (ELC) needed a way of breaking through to young Canadians and get them activated in the fight for climate action. We decided to focus on something scarier—the growth of two new species of flowers, threatening to change the landscape of Antarctica. We created the Planet’s Scariest Bouquet, a carefully crafted replica of the Antarctic flowers that threaten the continent. To introduce the Bouquet to the world, we delivered it to the world’s biggest climate conference, COP28 in Dubai. The bouquet was 3-D printed and finished with epoxy resin to precisely resemble Antarctic Pearlwort and Hair Grass. By recreating the bouquet, we didn’t require shipping any flowers from Antarctica and helped to reduce the carbon footprint of the project. To amplify the campaign, on social platforms, Global leaders received digital versions of the bouquet, reaching even more policy makers worldwide.
