Birth place:
Cork, Ireland
First job:
Newspaper boy, age 10, for the Birmingham News.
Had to pack it in two years later when my parents left
Alabama to return to Ireland.
College:
University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa. Roll Tide!
Best work experience before BCA:
Selling student travel cards to high school students around
Ireland.
Greatest achievement at BCA:
Longevity. The ability to adapt over 30 plus years and survive several economic
cycles and still deliver the talent, resources and work to keep clients happy.
Biggest disappointment:
Besides the few lost pitches that caused endless grief! Probably the devaluing of
creativity with the rise of technology. That and the business getting less personal, which equals less fun. Fortunately, several accounts have been with us for years and there are deep close ties.
Ad most proud of:
A trade ad I wrote way back for the Venice Simplon-Orient Express, the luxury train. The brief was to offer agents incentives to sell other VSOE products such as their 5-star hotels. The headline wrote itself: How To Make A Killing On The Orient Express.
Favorite vacation place:
Can’t play client favorites, so say the French Riviera, specifically Canadel, a small family-oriented coastal village less than 10 miles from St Tropez. All the Med goodness sans the nonsense.
Little-known fact:
I'm a crossword nerd. Masochism is attending the annual American Crossword Puzzle Tournament every Spring. You think you're a fast solver until you're in a room with these brainiacs.
