Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Kim began directing in 1995 after many years as a successful fashion photographer. Kim quickly developed a reputation for truly conceptual work and strong graphic imagery.
In 2010, Kim’s spot “Selinah” received a Gold Lion at Cannes. The spot, which was shot over the course of many months, chronicles Selinah’s recovery from AIDS through medications made available through The Topsy Foundation. Also at Cannes in 2010, “Nature of Wisdom” for Old Mutual was shortlisted for cinematography. Topsy’s ‘Selinah’ went on to win South Africa’s first Grand LIA at the London International Advertising Awards, as well as numerous other international awards, making Topsy the most awarded commercial to come out of South Africa in 2010.
His most recent work includes commercials for VW, Cadbury and Standard Bank.
Kim has been featured repeatedly in the Gunn Report and listed in both AdAge Global and Shots publication’s Top 100 Directors.
