James began his advertising career in the post-room at Bates before joining Ogilvy as a Graduate Trainee. He spent four years there, working on Ford, The Woolwich, Brooke Bond, Save the Children and Guinness UK and Worldwide.
James Murphy joined RKCR a year after it was founded. During eleven years’ service he worked across Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Trains, Scottish Courage, News International, Marks & Spencer and Lego. He was made Managing Director in 2003 and CEO in 2004. Under his leadership the agency grew from number 13 in the UK to number 6 and was recognized as Marketing Magazine’s Agency of the Year 2006, IPA Effectiveness Agency of the Year and won the Grand Prix for its work on Marks & Spencer.In 2008, James Murphy co-founded Adam&Eve. Within two years the agency was named as both Campaign and Marketing magazines’ Creative Agency of the Year.
In 2012 the agency merged with DDB, the world’s most creative network, to become adam&eveDDB. The agency is the 5th most awarded agency in the world including winning the IPA Effectiveness Grand Prix in 2012 for John Lewis. Other clients include Google, Foster’s, Volkswagen, Harvey Nichols, YouTube and the FT, as well as numerous charities including Save the Children and Changing Faces.
James Murphy lives in London with his wife and two daughters.
