Astrid Stavro

Astrid Stavro was born in Trieste (Italy) in 1972. She graduated with a First Class Certificate from Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design and with Distinction from The Royal College of Art in London, before relocating to Barcelona where she founded and directed the award-winning Astrid Stavro Studio for ten years.

Astrid specialises in concept driven art direction and editorial design. Her approach is rigorous, letting the content speak for itself and avoiding frivolous or superficial solutions. She has lectured extensively on design related subjects worldwide and has taught editorial design in various colleges. Her work has been widely published and exhibited and she is a frequent Jury Member in design competitions worldwide including twice at D&AD, one of them as Foreman in Book Design.

Astrid has written for various journals including Creative Review, Grafik, Eye and Étapes and is currently Art Director and Editor at Large of Elephant magazine.

She is a member of The International Society of Typographic Designers (ISTD) and was elected as member of Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI) in 2010, the world's most respected design association.

In September 2013 Astrid co-founded Atlas with Pablo Martín. Atlas is an award winning branding and design consultancy with over 40 years of international experience and knowledge, working for clients across the globe.

These include Phaidon Press, Camper, Hachette Rusconi, Laurence King, Frame Publishers, IBM, BMW, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, CCCB (Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Barcelona), Mahou San Miguel, Grupo Godó, The National Energy Museum, Acciona, Miró Foundation, RM Editorial, MACK Publishers, Lars Müller Publishers, La Fábrica, Grupo Planeta, Santa & Cole, Metalarte, Generalitat de Catalunya, Barcelona Tourism Office, Palau Robert, La Central and Barcelona Design Museum amongst many others.
Astrid's work has been recognised nationally and internationally with over one hundred creative awards including the Spanish Laus Awards, British Design & Art Directors (D&AD), The Annual (Creative Review), Design Week Awards, The International Society of Typographic Designers (ISTD), Art Directors Club of New York (ADCNY), Graphis, Type Directors Club of New York (TDCNY) and Art Directors Club of Europe (ADC*E).
