Advocate for rights of Girl Child
In the region of northern Nigeria, the girl child or women generally are marginalized and have no say in life due to a mish-mash of socio-cultural and thwarted religious beliefs. They are not permitted to dream, aspire and even express themselves. The picture, or print advertisement below is called "Speechless" and was a campaign I co- developed with Abolaji Alausa for a Nike Foundation project called Radio Amina while working at DDB Lagos. The print advertisement advocates the case of the "girl child", showing that with such support as the one offered by the Nike Foundation, the girl child may finally break her bond of societal speechlessness and find her voice. The print ad won several international awards. This includes a Silver awards at Epica 2012 which incidentally was Nigeria's first international advertising awards. It also won an Emerald awards at the 2013 African Cristal awards as well as a Silver at the Loeries awards festival in 2013. While this accomplishments indicate world wide recognition of the case of the abused Nigerian child, the status quo continues...demanding that this ad has yet a lot to do in terms of bringing attention to the plight of the Nigerian girl child. I hope that this will help in bringing back all the girls abducted and forced into work or sex slavery in Nigeria.
