Alison grew up on Cockatoo Island in Sydney harbour, surrounded by industry and the sea. It was a childhood fuelled by creativity and imagination. Her true passion is music and sound – how it makes you feel and can change the tone and ambience of a picture, creating a narrative. Since founding Groove Q with Dave Smith in 2001, Alison has delivered emotive & award-winning results for clients. Alison Cole is a former graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music who went on to study orchestration at AFTRS. Her film score composition work has been featured at the Cannes Film Festival, the Berlin International Film Festival and the Sydney Film Festival. She’s been a Tropfest winner, Best Composition Award winner (ProMax ANZ) and People’s Choice Award (B&T 2017). She has scored for TV series, award-winning TV Channel ID campaigns, sound and music installations (Vivid & Burning Man), TVCs, and international brand campaigns.
Alison has also performed in ARIA award-winning electronic dance bands, touring around Australia and the globe. Alison translates the ideas of her collaborators & clients into the emotional language of music. Her command of genres and musical scope can be seen through the variety of her work and awards. More recently, she has completed a PhD in Composition at Sydney Conservatorium featuring a major multi-media work titled Fabric of Memory.
