Morgan Dingle

Morgan Dingle

Director at Your Girlfriend
South Africa

About me

Morgan is based in Johannesburg, South Africa. He has been directing professionally since 2007 but has known since he was a child that this is what he was born to do. While other kids were memorizing Geography books he was sneaking off to cinemas by himself and memorizing
Tarantino dialogue. In 2003 He graduated with an Honours degree in film from AFDA, South Africa’s leading Film and Drama school. Obsessed with film he has worked in the film industry as a critic, a lecturer, a researcher, an editor, even a projectionist and now of course as a highly successful commercials director. He still loves to edit his own work when he has the time. He first broke into directing by making a name for himself as an important voice in South African music videos, directing videos for many of the countries top bands. It wasn’t long before the advertising
industry took notice and came knocking on his door. He has gone on to become one of the busiest and most sought after directors in South Africa, creating memorable work for brands such as Toyota, Renault, Volkswagen, Gaviscon, Scholl, Apple, Coca Cola, Nando’s, Standard Bank, Absa bank, Vanish, Simba, Harpic, Dettol, Castle Beer, Kinder Joy, Stimorol and many more.
Morgan has loads of experience with intricate, effects heavy, visually driven spots as well as beautifully simple storytelling and performance spots. He’s as comfortable with an actor as he is with a motion-controlled camera. He’s a total braniac when it comes to getting the most of the latest technology on set and in the post house. He can speak for hours about specialty lenses or firmware updates, but it’s the heart he injects into his spots through his masterful performance direction that makes his commercials shine with infectious personality.
Morgan’s main goal as a director, which is evidenced in his approach to treatments, is to do the source material justice.
He wants to take the script that’s been sweated over for so long before it gets to him and elevate it, rather than try and change for his own purposes. His greatest
satisfaction is when the concept shines through as the most important element of the project. The moment Morgan knew he had made a mark on the advertising industry was when an ECD showed him his own commercial as a reference. He had no idea Morgan had made it but asked him to please aspire to create something that great. He said he’d do his best.
